In my book Studio Lighting Anywhere I quote Richard Avedon who once said, “I think all art is about control—the encounter between control and the uncontrollable.” I think that’s what a dedicated studio, no matter what size it may be or where it may be located, can offer a portrait photographer.

You can capture infrared images in-camera with modified cameras or by using special on-camera filters but you can also create them after-the-fact using digital imaging software.

Today’s feature image of Brenda is from the first time that Mary and I photographed her at a group model shoot in Northern Colorado that was hosted by the legendary Dawn Clifford and John Clifford. This was an all available light portrait, no flash or reflectors were used.
