Today’s Post by Joe Farace
I do recommend it for all girls, and boys, out there: Put on a pair of fishnet stockings and find your inner sexiness! —Nia Vardalos
In the field of textiles, fishnet is describes a hosiery that has an open, diamond-shaped knit. It is often used as a material for stockings, tights, gloves or bodystockings. Fishnet is available in a multitude of colors, although it is most often seen in traditional matte black. Fishnet is commonly worn on the legs and arms by practitioners of goth and punk fashion, but is also sometimes worn by the mainstream as a fashion statement.—from Wikipedia
I owe the concept of #fishnetfriday to the vivacious, famous Canadian model Candy DuVerre who popularized the idea on her Instagram feed. And if you’re interested in the glamour photography genre you should be following her (@misscandyduverre2) on Instagram and be inspired with the many creative ideas that she displays as well as her work with some talented Canadian photographers. It’s one of my bucket list dreams to make it to Toronto one day and get to photograph Ms. DuVerre.
How I Made this Portrait: This pseudo-high key portrait of the always amazing Pam Simpson was made in my 11×15-foot home studio. The main light was a B800 Purple Haze Alien Bee monolight that was placed at camera right. A Paul C. Buff Omni reflector was attached to it and the bundled diffusion sock was stretched tight over the reflector. A second 150 Ws monolight (before my current all-Buff system) was set at full power and placed at camera left and slightly behind Pam, pointing at the wall in my studio before it was painted a (more or less) 18% grey.
The portrait was shot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark I and EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens at 58mm with an exposure of 1/125 sec at f/14 and ISO 100. The final image was originally captured as two JPEG files that were combined using my Cut-and-Paste Portrait technique before being processed with Dfine (because of a slight underexposure) and was retouched before applying the Glamour Glow from Color Efex.
