“Look, I’m not an intellectual – I just take pictures.”—Helmut Newton
As I’ve written before, when I was more mobile I liked to take walks during the day to get a bit of exercise and clear my head. As my ability to walk is improving, I’ve re-started this regimen and sometimes try out new photo equipment, which was the case with my recent posts about my infrared PhotoWalks.
On this particular day. I had borrowed a Panasonic Lumix G7 and wanted to give it a bit of a test drive. Although it looks like a really clever camera, I never bought a Lumix G7—I did buy a Lumix G9; hated it— although I did get a Lumix G6 and later had it converted by LifePixel for infrared photography.

Bingham Lake Park is a 30-acre park in Douglas County, Colorado and is a quiet oasis that’s enjoyed by hikers, mountain bikers, dog walkers, fisherman and the occasional photographer. The one-mile loop trail around the lake is a popular attraction for local residents, like me, as well as visitors.
The lake itself is home to various warm water game species, such as large-mouth bass, black crappie, walleye, blue gill yellow perch, channel catfish and white stripe bass. A shelter is located at the west trail head and is a perfect spot for a picnic—and also a great place to chimp any photos you made—as you observe the waterfowl and other wildlife that frequent the lake.
How I made this photograph: For some reason, this particular camera and the lens got me motivated on the walk and I made some images—including this one—that were somewhat different from the kind of shots I normally capture during these walks. It was fun and if you didn’t already know it, “Having Fun with Your Photography” is the unofficial motto of this blog. That’s why high up on my TO-DO list is another walk around the lake with one of my film cameras, like my Canon A-1. It’s something I want to do real soon now.
For this photograph, I attached a Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 II ASPH. Power O.I.S. lens onto the Lumix G7. One of the reasons I liked this combo is that it produced a compact and attractive package. Program mode exposure for the photograph was 1/800 sec at f/9 and ISO 400. It was tweaked with Vivenza brighten it up, which is just how I felt during a sunny Colorado day.
