Your personality is what makes you sexy.— Mollie King
It’s #seethrough Monday time! Lingerie is a category of women’s clothing that includes undergarments, sleepwear and lightweight robes, much like what Maria’s wearing at right. The word implies that the garments are alluring and fashionable. Lingerie can be made of lightweight, stretchy, smooth, sheer or decorative fabrics such as silk, satin, Lycra, charmeuse, chiffon, or lace.
See-through clothing is any garment that’s made with lace, mesh or sheer fabric that allows the wearer’s body or undergarments to be seen through its fabric. See-through or sheer fabric, particularly in skin tone colors, is sometimes called illusion, as in ‘illusion bodice’ due to giving the impression of exposed flesh. This concept is not new. See-through fabrics were fashionable in Europe during the eighteenth century and continue to be available for a wide range of clothing styles. This use of see-through fabrics as a common element in designer clothing resulted in the “sheer fashion trend” that’s been predominant in fashion circles since 2008.
About the Model
Some of the models that are featured in this series have either never appeared or may be under represented on this blog for several reasons, including the number of shoots that I had with them. Others, are like this portrait of the legendary Maria Cedar have appeared on this blog many times because of the four shoots that we have done together over the past several years with, at least, one more to come—fingers crossed.
About the portrait
I photographed the incredible Internet model, Maria Cedar in the doorway to (what real estate agents would call) a Butler’s Pantry that’s next to the dining room of my current home. Lighting was from a combination of daylight coming through a large large South-facing window at camera right (but on the second floor in an open foyer) along with fill from the camera’s pop-up flash. I turned on the incandescent light in the butler’s pantry to fill any shadows behind her and add some warmth. Camera used was a Panasonic Lumix GH4 with an image-stabilized Lumix G Vario 14-45mm f/F3.5-5.6 lens (at 45mm) that I bought used from a camera store in Japan. The exposure was 1/15 sec at f/9 and ISO 400.
