Your personality is what makes you sexy.— Mollie King
Lingerie is a category of women’s clothing that includes undergarments, sleepwear and lightweight robes. The word implies that the garments are alluring and fashionable. Lingerie can be made of lightweight, stretchy, smooth, sheer or decorative fabrics such as silk, satin, Lycra, charmeuse, chiffon, or lace.
Some of the models featured in this series have either never appeared or may be under represented on this blog for several reasons, including the number of shoots that I had with them. Others are like this portrait of Dusty, who I originally photographed for a calendar project.* Unlike most of the models I photographed for this project she lived in Oklahoma and the client flew here in for this shoot and another shoot later on. I was even able to schedule a private shoot with her and every now and then you’ll see photographs of Dusty on this blog, especially since she’s the model for my favorite portrait or glamour photograph.
About the portrait:
I photographed Dusty relaxing on the bumper of an emergency vehicle in the factory where it was being built. We were working under mixed lighting conditions that the camera’s Auto White Balance setting handled really well. Minor color corrections were made with PictoColor iCorrect Portrait. I used a speedlight for fill during that period of my glamour photography career (if you want to call it that) that I wrote about in my post that was a tribute to Dawn Clifford.
I photographed Dusty using a 6.3-megapixeCanon EOS 10D with my got-to portrait lens for this camera system, the EF 85mm f/1.8 lens. Exposure was 1/60 sec at f/4.5 and ISO 100 with fill from a Canon 550EX speedlite that had a Sto-fen Omni Bounce diffuser attached. The JPEG file—made before my RAW+JPEG current regimen—was rotated and slightly cropped into a 3×2 ratio using Photoshop’s Crop tool. The image was then lightly retouched and tweaked with Vivenza before adding a smidgen of the Glamour Glow filter from Color Efex.
*Postscript: Recently I received a phone call from the client for whom I did the firetruck factory shoots. He is considering restarting, not just the calendar project, but creating a website as well. He even mentioned that Dusty was interested in posing for “one more shoot” so that had me excited at the prospect.
If you’re interested in learning how I shoot portraits and use cameras, lenses and lighting in my in-home studio and on location, please pick up a copy of Studio Lighting Anywhere that’s available used from Amazon.com starting around thirty bucks, as I write this. The Kindle version is $19.99, for those who prefer a digital format.
