Model Search for a New Muse for 2022

Today’s Post by Joe Farace

A muse is a woman or a force that’s personified as a woman and who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist, or in my case a portrait and glamour photographer.

I only worked with Laura May Bachmayer for a few months, For a period from December 2012 until March 2013. Mostly these sessions were for a series of lighting reviews originally shot and written for the former print edition of Shutterbug magazine, although they didn’t publish all of those reviews and only published a cant few of her photos from these sessions. (Maybe someday I may be able to tell the story of why some of these reviews went unpublished and why Laura and another model’s images were also not published.) During that time, Ms. Bachmayer and I had seven wonderful photo sessions together creating images that were innovative as well as encompassing a wide variety of styles.

When testing cameras, lenses and lighting equipment, I need to work with models who would like to pose for the kind of photographs you see scattered throughout this blog.

That’s why I’m interested in finding a new muse. It’s open to women from ages 21-45 and no experience is necessary only a willingness to give modeling a try in a fun and safe environment. I’ll be making photographs to illustrate how-to posts as well as camera, lens and, with the blog’s new emphasis on film photography, film reviews.

Sessions typically run approximately two hours and are scheduled during the day Monday through Friday in my home studio that’s located near Parker, Colorado. Some Saturday morning shoots are possible for exceptional models. The model receive their choice of a flash drive or CD containing all of the photographs we make to take with them that day and the images can be used anyway the model wants, including sales.

Shoots will be on a TFP basis, but for assignments that I get for print media or corporate clients I’ll pay the model an hourly rate based on the her experience. If you have a friend or maybe yourself who would like to be my new muse, please contact me through the Contact page or e-mail me at joefarace at gmail dot com. We can schedule an interview or test shoot, whichever is more convenient.

How I Made This Photo: I photographed aspiring model Laura May Bachmayer in my 11×15-foot home studio against a Savage 53-inch x 36-foot Widetone Seamless Background Paper mounted on my JTL background stands. An LED light panel was placed high and at camera right and a 32-inch reflector at camera left. Looking very retro sixties-style glamour Ms. Bachmayer was photographed with a Canon EOS 60D with EF-S15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens (at 73mm) with a Program mode exposure of 1/30 sec at f/5.6 and ISO 800. I feel that monochrome images add elements of romance and mystery to a portrait and used Silver Efex Pro as well as the Glamour Glow filter from Color Efex Pro to complete the look of this image from an original RAW file.
