It’s Fishnet Friday: Part Deux

Today’s Post by Joe Farace

I do recommend it for all girls and boys out there: put on a pair of fishnet stockings and find your inner sexiness! — Nia Vardalos

In the field of textiles, fishnet is described as hosiery that has an open, diamond-shaped knit. It is often used as a material for stockings, tights, gloves or body stockings. Fishnet is available in a multitude of colors and it is most often seen in traditional matte black, although today’s featured model, Pam Simpson, has opted for purple! Fishnet is commonly worn on the legs and arms by practitioners of Goth and punk fashion but is also sometimes worn by the mainstream as a fashion statement. —from Wikipedia

More About the Nets Than the Fish

I owe the concept of #fishnetfriday to the vivacious, famous Canadian model Candy DuVerre who popularized the idea on her Instagram feed. (Right now, her Instagram seems to be inactive but if she restarts it in the future I will update this post with a link to it.) One of my bucket list dreams to make it to Toronto one day and get to photograph Ms. DuVerre.

How I Made this Portrait: This pseudo-low key portrait of the always-amazing Pam Simpson was made in my 11×15-foot home studio. The main light was a limited Edition Purple Haze Alien Bees 800 monolight that was placed at camera right. A Paul C. Buff Omni reflector was attached to it and a diffusion sock was stretched tight over the front of the reflector.

A second 150 Ws monolight (before setting up my current all-Buff lighting system) was set at full power and placed behind Pam, pointing at the camera. Paul C Buff is not a sponsor of me or this blog. I do not get a single penny from you clicking the link; it’s being provided for your convenience.

The portrait was shot with a Panasonic Lumix GH4 and Lumix G Vario 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 lens at 45mm with an exposure of 1/125 sec at f/9 and ISO 200. The final image was originally captured as RAW+JPEG with the RAW file was used for this photograph before being processed with Dfine (because of noise from a slight underexposure) and was lightly retouched before applying the Glamour Glow from Color Efex.

I am currently casting women 21-49 for this series of #fishnetfriday posts. If you know of any models, aspiring models or women—maybe yourself—who might be interested in modeling for this series, please have them or you click the Contact tab and let’s talk.
