Film Photo Walks for 2024?

“Taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second.” ― Marc Riboud

Several readers have recently asked about the possibility of restarting pandemic-delayed Photo Walks for 2024. Right now, I’m considering sponsoring a series of PhotoWalks to be held in early Spring in Parker, Colorado and am trying to determine the dates as well as the format for these events.

In talking informally with photographers, some of you have suggested we have them during a weekend day instead of during the week while others asked that we designate certain PhotoWalks for film shooters only. All of this input will be taken under consideration before setting up the 2024 schedule. If you have any opinions on this subject as well as comments or questions, please click Contact and let me know the kind of format you would like to see for next year’s PhotoWalks.

How I Made this Photo: I photographed another one of my favorite Parker, Colorado subjects—the Jacks and Ball sculpture at Discovery Park—using a Leica M6 TTL loaded with Kodak UltraMax 400 film that was processed and scanned by The Darkroom,

A Concept Considered

The plan that I’m currently considering would be to meet at the gazebo in O’Brien Park, which is located on the northeast corner of Parker Road and Mainstreet in Parker, Colorado. A large parking lot can be accessed from Victorian Drive. The Photo Walk would start at the gazebo and we’ll make photographs, mingle and talk as we walk down (up) Mainstreet until we reach Discovery Park at 20105 Mainstreet, where the giant Jacks & Ball sculpture (above) is located. The PhotoWalk will last approximately 90 minutes and if time permits, we’ll cross the street and make photographs around the PACE Center at 20000 Pikes Peak Avenue. PhotoWalks will be free but will be limited to a maximum of five participants, so although free, preregistration is required.

I would like—but this is open to discussion—to have the PhotoWalk start at just before dusk so we can shoot the gazebo while it’s illuminated as well as the Jacks and Ball that have changing colored lights projected onto them. Also the fountain between the sculpture and Parker Library is illuminated as well with a changing color lighting display. All the while, the topics of discussion will be in keeping to this How-To blog’s focus and I’ll try to answer any and all of your photographic questions.

We hope to have some guests along with some door prizes to add some fun to the events. To find out the details about the first event, please watch this blog and follow me on Instagram (@joefarace.)
