these days you’ll find me on Instagram where all of my  posts are photographs that are related to this blog pr maybe just images that I wanted to make and are not driven by astroturfing and payola. It’s just photos I’ve shot and am still making. Why? To paraphrase Quentin Tarantino, “because i love making photographs!”

In the last episode of Things I Promised Not to Tell, I asked readers “… if anybody bothers to read this, maybe I can expand one of the sections into an upcoming installment…” Well this is that installment is one of them; more if you like.

Aside from a Holga, my only other medium format film camera was a birthday gift from my wife Mary. It’s a gold-trimmed Seagull 4A-107G Limited Collector’s Edition medium format TLR. OK, it’s not a Rollei but that didn’t stop Seagull from trying to make a nice camera.

Once upon a time, I was lucky enough to spend a few nights in the Cadogan Hotel, in the heart of London’s Chelsea neighborhood.  Way back in the day, Oscar Wilde frequently hosted friends at the hotel’s bar. Me? I had breakfast tea and toast in a cozy area just off the hotel’s lobby. What’s that got to do with photography? Let me tell you a story…

To me, this seems like an odd photograph. It’s odd because these days even a rusted out VW Bus can be worth close to $100,000. I don’t get it either but nostalgia exerts a powerful pull on car values. But why would anybody graft a VW Beetle body on top of a VW bus? One can come up with many scenarios, none of them likely the truth.
