Why Not Take A Walk In the Park Today

Today’s Post by Joe Farace

A calming and therapeutic way to relax after a long busy day, would be to take a nice, leisurely walk in the park. On March 30th National Take A Walk In The Park Day encourages us to stretch our legs on our favorite trail or at our neighborhood park.

Taking a walk at a nearby park is a great way to clear yout mind from the stresses of the day, re-energize, and at the same time, improve your health. During a walk, you’ll have the opportunity to capture a beautiful photograph, compose an original poem or have an uninterrupted conversation. When taking a walk in the park, all sorts of pleasant surprises can blossom. There’s always the chance you can lose track of time and maybe run into a familiar face.

Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre historic park that’s located in San Diego, California.  Balboa Park hosted the 1915–16 Panama–California Exposition and 1935–36 California Pacific International Exposition, both of which left architectural landmarks behind. The park and its historic Exposition buildings were declared a National Historic Landmark and National Historic Landmark District in 1977 and were placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In addition to open space, natural vegetation zones, green belts, gardens, and walking paths, it contains museums—including an automobile museum, several theaters, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Within its boundaries, there are also many recreational facilities and several gift shops and restaurants.

How I Made this Shot: This photo was one of my earliest attempts at HDR photography. The image is a combination of a series of five bracketed exposures that was made at San Diego’s Balboa Park during the morning. It was shot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark I with a EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens (at 41mm) and a nominal exposure of 1/25 sec at f/22 and ISO 200. After some minor cropping tweaks, this was my first iteration of the Balboa Park image after processing in HDR Efex Pro.
