#traveltuesday is on a one-week hiatus as we celebrate National Intimate Apparel Market Week
Today’s Post by Joe Farace
Underwear is everything because we all know that if we have on the wrong pair of underwear it ruins your day.—Veronica Webb
National Intimate Apparel Market Week is a way for industry leaders to come together and exchange information and ideas about this vital sector of the fashion industry. When it comes to fashion, intimate apparel is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. In 2021, the global industry generated nearly $85 billion. At its current growth rate, the market is expected to reach over $325 billion by 2025.
The Underfashion Club sponsors Intimate Apparel Market Week four times a year during the first week of February, May, August, and November.. This nonprofit organization was formed in 1958. The original name was the Corset and Brassiere Women’s Club, Inc but in 1963 it was changed to the Underfashion Club.
Women account for two-thirds of the total market share with individuals over 36 making up a majority of intimate apparel buyers.
The most popular types of intimate apparel include bras, underpants, sleepwear, shapewear and even thermal wear. iDiva said that, according to a survey, 37% of women prefer bikini panties, 23% like granny panties or full briefs, 19% prefer G-strings and 10% like “another style” while seven per cent prefer to wear no underwear at all!
How To Observe #IntimateApparelMarketWeek Go shopping for new lingerie. If you’re a man, buy some new intimate apparel for your significant other, even if it’s a comfortable pair of pajamas. Attend a fashion show in your area. Learn about the intriguing history of lingerie. You can read the history of some it it, especially see-through lingerie right here on this blog.
How we’re going to observe Intimate Apparel Week: Starting yesterday, I’ll be featuring a different glamour image of some of the best models that I’ve worked with (wearing intimate apparel, of course) in the past several years along with some behind-the-scenes images and maybe even a video of a lingerie shoot on my YouTube channel.
About the Model: I first photographed Erin Valakari on October 28, 2017 having discovered her on an on-line modeling site. We had thirteen shoots together before a break caused by COVID and her moving 150 miles (round trip) from Daisy Hill. We were recently reunited for two shoots and today’s featured image is from that second shoot..She was just as vivacious, beautiful and talented during these shoots as when she was during our first shoot together. While we still have the logistics of our locations working against us, I’m really hoping that we get to work together soon,
How I Made this Portrait:: I photographed Erin in my home studio using a Lumix GH4 with a Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 lens and an exposure of 1/125 sec at f/8 and ISO 200. Lighting was provided by a Paul C. Buff DigiBee with Plume Ltd Wafer softbox attached that was placed at camera right. Another DigiBee with an 18-OMNI reflector was placed behind a 42 x72-inch Scrim Jim with white translucent cover. In the back (camera left) of my studio, I placed a Paul C Buff Alien Bee with 16 x 30-inch Westcott Apollo Strip soft box. Background was a 5×7-foot Photo Grey Savage Infinity vinyl background.
