“When it snows, you have two choices: shovel or make snow angels.” Unknown

Weather Reoort: If you’ve been reading this blog or following me on Instagram (if not please do, it’s @joefarace) I’ve been talking about some of the effects of the recent cold weather and series of snowstorms that’s still going on as I write this. Overnight, we’ve received nine inches of snow here on Daisy Hill, with accumulations between 14 and 26 inches expected elsewhere in the Denver area with two to four feet expected in the foothills and northern mountains.

How I made this shot: As many of your know, one of my favorite subjects to photograph is the gazebo in O’Brien Park that’s located in Parker, Colorado. The above image was made after a snow storm sometime last year and was shot using an Olympus OM-D EM-10 Mark I—they’re up to Mark IV now—that was originally a gift from my wife, Mary. Yes, I know I have the greatest wife of all time. The Mark IV update has made some improvements over the previous models to the camera’s autofocus, especially to continuous AF tracking. The company also improved its face and eye detection algorithms, particularly when faces are detected from extreme angles. As I write this, OM Systems has not launched their version of this wonderfully versatile and affordable model but I’m sure they’ll get around to it real soon now..

The lens I used for this photograph was the inexpensive ($96) but eminently useful Olympus M Zuiko 17mm f/2.8. Exposure was 1/640 sec at f/9 and ISO 200. The original color image file was converted to monochrome using Silver Efex and then I added a little soft mood using the Glamour Glow filter that’s part of Color Efex.
