Today’s Post by Barry Staver

Joe received the (below) thank you note from the mother of a young person that he featured in his former Web Profiles column for the print edition of Shutterbug and sent it to me a few days ago to read. Joe’s a modest guy who’s blushing right now as you read this post. He wouldn’t publicly share this himself so with some arm-twisting I’m doing that for him.

In 2009 you reviewed my sons website www.craighudsonphoto.com. He was 17 at the time. You predicted he’d have “a bright future”… Take a look at his Instagram Chudsonphoto 😉 he’s currently freelancing for The Washington Post and Bloomberg. July 2021 his was the fireworks picture on the front page of the Washington post. I am a proud mother but you ought to be proud as well. Your article helped propel him to college with scholarship in Washington DC and his professors helped propel him forward from there. But I’ll always be grateful to you —the first person that noticed his talent❤—Kathy Keller Biddle

You see, Joe is always open to looking at images, sharing his opinion, helping fellow photographers. It’s who he is. If this man’s photography wasn’t good, Joe would have found a polite way to constructively critique it. Sounds like Joe saw something in the photographs and his encouragement made a significant impact on the young man.

What do you think?

Disclaimer: Joe and I have been friends, colleagues for many many years. We’ve been through thick and thin, film to digital, and back to film for Joe. I’ve always turned to him for photographic advice plus advice and help with many other aspects of life. His truth, his honesty, his opinion are down to earth and genuine. And rare these days. He tells it like he sees it, no sugar coating (unless its warranted.)
