An alternative title for this post (and video) Why Should You Shoot Film?

Today’s Post by Joe Farace

No place is boring, if you’ve had a good night’s sleep and have a pocket full of unexposed film.—Robert Adams

Ever since I returned to film photography in November 2021, people have been asking me: Why are you shooting film? It’s so expensive. And why now?

In this featured video below I offer some of the reasons why I’m shooting film now and enjoying the heck out of it. In the video, I discuss the three phases that I believe that all photographers go through in their search for refining their technical and aesthetic skills and how that process applied to my own re-discovery of shooting film.

Realizing that shooting film is not for everyone, I want to make it clear that all of my reasons for shooting film now are highly personal and may not apply to you. This is especially true if you grew up shooting digitally and that method and tools seems more natural to you. But even so, I would ask that you take the time to look at this short video and hear me out. After watching it, you may not want to shoot film but you will, I sincerely hope, understand why I do.

You can send me film to review or any other photo-related gear that can be used in these posts of YouTube video by clicking the CONTACT button and asking for my mailing address.

PS. My YouTube channel has many posts about film photography and there’s even a section entitles “Film Photography” where you will find all the videos—including one on buying cameras from Japan.
