Corset Monday: The End of a Thread?

by | May 22, 2023

“There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stop the story.”—Frank Herbert

It all started in November 7, 2022 and sadly, my friends, we’ve come to an end of #corsetmonday. I have gone through all of my folders that were labeled “corset” and selected a few images that I liked and won’t get flagged by the ever-present nanny software and social media—official and unofficial—censors. (More on that later.) To be honest, there were a few folders I did not draw any images from. Some were from sessions I didn’t think were successful, which was always my fault. Another shoot was from an attractive young model whose corset was so unattractive, ill-fitting and non-corsety that it didn’t photograph all that well, but maybe it was simply a lack of talent or creativity on my part.

I think there may be other photographs of models who are wearing corsets lurking on my hard drive. I can’t find them but will keep looking. I often label the folders based on the color of what they are wearing, so sometimes, I have dozens of folders labeled “white” or “red” or  “black” that might contain images of models in corsets that I could use to restart this series, if anyone, besides me, is interested.

And then there were models that I photographed (wearing a corset) more than once or in a different corset as was the case with the always wonderful Pam Simpson, who is featured today to wrap up this series. And sometimes I photographed models wearing what I thought were corsets but  was corrected by my wife and other female readers were not corsets but bustiers. In the unlikely case that we can get this series restarted, I will try to be more lingerie literate in the future.

If anyone is interested in my continuing this series, I’ll be glad to dig into my files to find some, including different shoots of models such as Safina and Zoe as well check some of my more generically named folders to see if there are any corset images in them. Let me know via the CONTACT tab and I’ll get to work.

How I Made this Portrait: Unlike other assignments for Shutterbug where almost all of the images I made of Pam Simpson were shot for lighting equipment reviews this portrait was made for her personal use. She used to model for hair shows and would often show up with new hair styles as was the case in today’s featured image and she wanted some portraits with this hairstyle and color.

The lighting set-up for this shoot with Pam used a Godox monolight with a Westcott Apollo Strip softbox attached as the main light and was placed at camera right. The back or side light is from another Godox monolight that was located at camera left with the standard metal reflector in place. Backdrop is a Savage 5 x 7-foot Infinity grey vinyl background hung on my JTL background stands. Camera was a Canon EOS 60D with EF-S15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens with an exposure of 1/100 sec and f/13 and ISO 100

Special Note: With #corsetmonday ending, I plan to replace it with a #seethrough series starting next month. To do that I’m looking for women interested in posing wearing see-through clothing or lingerie for this series. After signing a simple model release, they will receive their choice of a CD or flash drive containing all the approx 200 photographs we’ll make during a two-hour shoot that she can take with her—that day. The model will also receive full rights to use the images however they like. If you or maybe somebody you know might be interested, please click CONTACT and let’s talk.
