Today’s Post by Joe Farace
“Corsetry is a body modification.”—Dita von Teese
If you’re interested in glamour photography I would like to suggest you follow Dita Von Teese (@ditavonteese) on Instagram because she posts some inspirational images. Every Monday one of her Instagram fan sites publishes a series of glamour portraits of her wearing a corset, so I thought I would give the concept of #CorsetMonday a try here. Welcome to episode 6:
There was a time, seems like yesterday but wasn’t, when I asked models to brings a corset to one of our photo sessions.
Ar the same time, I tried to include images of models wearing corsets as part of the lighting equipment reviews I wrote for the former print edition of Shutterbug. Unfortunately, he magazine never published any of these images, for their own reasons but one could guess. Since they wouldn’t let you see the images, I’m going to try to publish a few of them on these Corset Monday posts.
Some of these models you’ll see in this series have either never appeared on this blog or may be under represented for many reasons, including how many shoots that I did with them. Nicole was an aspiring model that was referred to me by Greeley Colorado’s Diana Lareé, a wonderfully talented make-up artist, who also did the model’s make-up for this shoot. Diana referred several models to me but, like Nicole, they were women that I only photographed one time.
How I made this portrait:This portrait of Nicole was made in a 8×9-foot space in the unfinished basement of my former home. Lighting was provided by two inexpensive monolights but you could probably produce the same kind of lighting using speedlights. Background was an inexpensive muslin background hanging on my JTL background stands. The only amenities in this makeshift basement studio was a 4×5 foot rug that I bought Target and a stool. It’s not a “real” posing stool—I still don’t own one of them—but one that I sat on to run my model trains. This set-up wasn’t fancy but it worked well enough, as I hope you can see in the image at right. The camera used was a Canon EOS 5D Mark I with EF 85mm f/1.8 lens with an exposure of 1/60 sec at f/10 and ISO 100.
